Thread: Wizard of Oz at the Sphere

  1. #1
Wizard of Oz has opened at the Sphere. Reviews thus far are good.

The movie has been edited from 102 minutes down to 75 minutes, and that includes the additions to where you're looking at the landscapes of Oz for a longer period of time than shown in the movie (such as when Dorothy first lands there, and it becomes colorized).

Tickets are very expensive. You can't get in for less than mid-$100s, and the better seats are around $200-$300.

They have effects within the Sphere such as blowing papers during the tornado, snow falling when it falls on Dorothy in the movie, and actual drone-like flying monkeys overhead when they fly in the movie.

I see that some people are getting casino offers at Caesars which include Sphere tickets, even though the company is independent of all casinos.

    Anyone get these offers?

I'd like to see this, but the prices are crazy.

I've been looking into concert tickets for the fall.

It looks like orchestra level seats are less than upper deck seats.

Are the better seats farther away from the stage?

    Depends on the show.

You definitely do NOT want orchestra (lowest level) rows 23+

LMAO! I got the Zenking reference with him often saying,"Drones,"

I went Saturday it was quite amazing.

We were in section 207 row 14 and the seats were perfect. They were right next to the expensive "VIP" seat section but half the price. Definitely recommend.

Pretty sure that the orchestra seats are removed for the wind / smoke / fire effects machinery.

Did you buy the seats directly, or did you get them through a third party service?

High but better than I expected for section 207.

Why did you get cancellation insurance? Was there a decent chance you'd miss the event? I've never bought anything like that, and I can't imagine I would until I am old or sick (or I think I might need to abruptly cancel to help a parent).

Anyway I will definitely keep your seat location in mind for when I go. Now I just gotta find a way to get it cheaper, out of principle. I'll also probably be buying 3 seats.

Isn't it better to take the cancellation insurance? That would mean you get your money back if say the show is cancelled for any reason like if an angry ex snuck into the stage and shot their ex lover. I saw a news report of something similar happening and the show was understandably cancelled.

Well, it wasn't expensive... under $20 a ticket. We had just started our drive Friday early evening on Labor Day Weekend. You know... Kid, Wife and a Dog... Figured, "Just in case" something happened on the way there... We left around 6PM and got there after 2AM. Accident shut down the 15N just before stateline... Figured we would take it just in case something terrible happened and we wouldn't make it there. We woke up just in time...

Wife really wanted to take the Tesla and I wanted to take the Bronco because the holiday weekend. On the way home there was traffic as well. We ended up going home through Joshua Tree. There are ZERO charging stations from the 15 to the 10 going the Joshua Tree route. We didn't charge fully assuming we would stop in Barstow or Baker so it was a bit of a nerve-racking drive... We made it with about 20 miles of range to the next charging stop after going 145 miles in 100+ weather...

Was a beautiful drive though. Would not have been an issue if we fully charged rather than did the minimum charge needed to get to a much closer spot.

Joshua Tree? What area do you live? For me, Joshua Tree is never an option, no matter how bad the traffic. I always have to choose whether I take the 134-210-15 route or the 14-18-138-15 route. If traffic is horrendous north of Barstow, then I can take the 40 to the 95.

I am going to be getting a new vehicle fairly soon, and am still deciding if I want an electric one. The concern about the lack of long range and lack of charging stations in certain areas really worries me. How long does it take to charge when near zero and wanting to get back to full?

Have you done the Searchlight detour? That's a great way to get around state line traffic.

The cars charge far faster when it is charging the first 1/2 of capacity. Topping off totally is like 25 mins ... but if you are on a normal highway, you can get it done in about 15 minutes and get 2/3 capacity .. then just use the next charger. Now if you're going off in the boonies you'd want to fully charge but thats not the standard usecase.

I have a sock stuffed up on top of the rearview mirror to block the camera. The car never complains and it means it doesn't see me using my phone. I trust it quite a bit on a highway .. so it makes those long drives great. same thing with traffic. Adjust the car to be within the minimum car lengths and it'll stop and go with traffic.

A used Tesla is a really good idea if you commute to work in traffic. You can spend your spare time beating up on Rob Singer instead of driving. Godo for lolz.

I'm further down the 15 / 215 in the Temecula Valley. This is what my drive looked like:

I have done the Searchlight route before. It works out perfect going to Green Valley. That was how I wanted to go, but since we took the EV the charging options aren't as available.

Correct, and so many don't understand this. When on road trips where I'm stopping at multiple locations in a day (like driving from California to Florida which I've done a few times in an EV now), I start driving when the charging speed slows down and I have enough to get to the next stop. I find it silly to do a full charge and spend more time charging. I typically charge long enough to go pee and stretch my legs...
