Mildly curious. Why do you change cars so often?
Mildly curious. Why do you change cars so often?
Another issue is the failure of EV drivers to contribute to the cost of maintaining highways / infrastructure, unlike we who pay hefty taxes on gasoline.
Also Alan's kid lives I believe in so Cal. with its plethora of green accomodations...try getting electricity in the middle of night in the midst of a blizzard in bumfuck Wyoming...
We have choices...let's not try to shame /demean / talk down at one another for the choices we've made, eh?
What, Me Worry?
The 2015 I got used in 2019. Got it for $5K and sold it during covid for like 8 or 9K.
I've had a lot of cars. Between me and my wife we used to be a 3 car family. Now its just two with the Tesla and the Bronco.
The Tesla Y's... Here is my long story short Tesla story....
We decided to get a Model Y early during Covid. We were able to get a demo unit with like 1,000 miles on it for a discount. This was like February or March 2020. Financed with very minimal down.
As soon as we got it we new we wanted the Model X (larger). So we ordered a Model X Long Range ($111K ($200 down)). Delivery was supposed to be August 2020. Fast forward to July and we get a message "Prepare for Delivery." So we sold the Model Y. At this time, you couldn't get a tesla without a very long wait so we sold it for roughly 10K more than we paid.
Literally the next day after Selling the Model Y, our "Prepare for Delivery" status turned to ETA a year from now.... So I was like fuck... We need another car... The regular Model Y had a 5-6 month wait, but the Model Y Performance was readily available (more money). So ordered a Model Y performance and took delivery within a few days (Paid cash).
Fast forward a year, we want our X! They were finally starting to deliver them but they were all Plaids (the Plaid is more expensive and at this time the Plaid was $155K). We still had no ETA for our Long Range, so I decided to try ordering a Plaid. Paid the $250 deposit and poof, not but 3 days later come get your Model X!
So we sell the Model Y performance for again $10K more than we paid, and put down $50K on the $155K plaid. At this time the Long Range (which we still had on order) was selling for $145 and figured we would keep that order and buy it to flip it...
We get our Plaid and we love it.
Fast forward 6 months, our Long Range is finally ready to pickup. At this point the market is already starting to correct and they are not reselling for much so we decided to not pickup the Long Range.
Now, the $155K plaid we purchased is something stupid like $80K New from Tesla. We hate the fact that they discounted the car so much. It is horrible what they did. I absolutely hate how Tesla operates with their pricing, but at least now, since the car market is terrible the Tesla's are more reasonably priced and they are offering incentives...
So I have a big love hate relationship with Tesla...
I mean, my vehicle registration for the Tesla is much greater than a gas vehicle of a similar cost.
Unless you are driving more than 250 miles a day, you don't need to find a charger away from your home...
You can't fix a ton of modern car stuff but I agree with EVs it is basically components that you swap out. The upside though is the cars don't have near as much expensive maintenance or failures.
Depending on where and how you drive, the charging thing isn't a big deal. I honestly believe some people don't have it together enough to make those decisions properly because it is a real concern. For instance, I came home today at 5% which was really low but I only needed to drive dad fo doctor and back etc. I could have easily stopped at a super charger that was not out of the way at all and hung out for 10 minutes. Instead, I didn't have to stop anywhere, parked in the garage, and plugged it in. So instead of a few minutes messing around at a gas station - I just parked it inside and plugged 'er in.
The battery wearing out is really a thing but I'm not sure how much worse it is than ICE engines being worn out. My battery has degraded a little too fast for what I want .. I got a bit unlucky there. It remains to see if that schedule will continue or slow down.
lol LPs and CDs.. cassettes are back in fashion too.
You're worried about EV users not contributing their fair share? Well what about not contributing as much to the particle pollutants floating about poisoning peopel? (yea yea pile on but it is a real thing)
You can always use a generator to charge the car if that is your concern. (in the wyoming blizzard)
Yea, used Tesla model Y's that aren't long range are a really good value IMO. I try to get my gf to get one. Her firm's office is on the other side of town so she is always leaving early/arriving late to avoid traffic. I'm like, go spend 20-25k and get a Tesla like I do and hten when you're stuck on the interstate, just put it in auto-drive and sit back and check emails or whatever. (Or troll Singer)
BUt I agree about the depreciation and such. I am/was a bit bitter about this. I was upside down for years on the car.
I'll tell you guys when I have to put more money into it outside of tires and windshield fluid.
ALso - I'm blown away the Tesla board is trying so hard to keep Elon on. He's toxified himself enough the libs will not get over that much unlike what people want to believe. So perhaps the alt-right types will make up for it?
Most of the electricity used to power EV's is sourced from coal, gas or oil, correct?
New gas powered cars run much, much cleaner than they used to: air pollution isn't that big of a thing any more with new cars in America.
I enjoy working on and maintaining my old Volvo Turbo cars: parts are readily available and not particularly expensive, and there is great satisfaction and savings in DIY.
What, Me Worry?
There are not coal/gas plants around where people live more or less. I'd have to read the breakdown of powre production but ultimately my car is not making the smog in a city to near the extent.
I'd rather just not have to DIY to begin with. I have some gas cars and always something if you're not driving them every few weeks. At least thats how it seems .. but the Tesla wastes power being PARKED as the computers run in the background etc. Although I guess maybe not much difference than key-fobs.
EV's are only good for limited driving, such as running daily errands. I've driven only one and V, it was a 2025 Volvo...an ESX or something. It had incredibly fast acceleration. Several days later I looked it up--0-60 in 3.4 seconds, and my friend only paid less than $50k for it. That's exactly the same time my Blackwing advertises, and it cost more than two-and-a-half times more!
However---no ev could be taken on the long drives we do. I'd constantly be concerned with range, charge station locations, and availability. Plus there's the waiting. It has nothing to do with whether you're a foolish tree-hugger or not, and all to do with simple common sense. It's just too soon in the evolution period. Maybe in 20-30 years, but not today.
If you're not math retarded it is quite simple. There are super-chargers on all highways and the thing basically tells you which one to charge at.
I'm a busy man - a man of leisure. So instead of getting out to stretch your legs every 4 hours, you do it every 3 hours. It is far far better to have it drive you. You can totally watch everything go by. I have a rubber-banded bracket I put on the top of my steering wheel... tinted windows. I just kick back and watch movies.
Long drives are the best as is being stuck in traffic. In traffic it'll just constantly pace. In long drives you can totally kick back because it drives on the highway just fine.
I can drive 5 hours to a casino better than anything in LV and watch a movie - not have to deal with an airplane or airport.
Only thing I agree with singer is there is simple common sense involved in whether to buy one.
If you have the dough and build out a real solar system you don't even have to depend on others for fuel anymore. Harder to repair but need so fewer repairs.
Singer would be hard pressed to find any reasonable trip he ever takes to not be readily chargeable.
I agree though if you are relying on a single charger...
You can always pack a generator in the trunk lol.
You're 90% theory and 10% reality. You dont go anywhere or do anything if it doesn't have something to do with "casinos"....and they'll wait for you because they're always open. Additionally....you haven't ever been able to find someone who'll marry you, so you have no idea what it means to create the safest, most comfortable surroundings possible for someone other than yourself and your selfish interests. And on long trips, you want hassle-free security. Watching "tv" doesn't cut it in the real world. Neither do 45 minute "charging stops". Get real.
V, the states make up for EV owners not paying road maintenance etc. thru fuel taxes by charging them an additional fee every time they register & renew. Don't know (or care) if it's enuf to offset. Those people have more than enough worries, apprehension and anxieties when it comes to road trips.
RIP Charlie Kirk. Without him and his caring genius on waking up the younger generations to all the woke nonsense the last liberal administration tried to shove down Americans' throats, Donald Trump would likely not be our president. Imagine....just try to IMAGINE...if kackling Kamala were in the Oval Office today.......
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is not enough.
Ehh my gf wants to marry me last I knew. Many many hints and speaking of it. She's an attorney (a partner) in charge of big settlements and I'm absolutely sure more accomplished than the thing that married you. Like I said kewl er uhm I mean Rob, lol.
Wtf does going to casinos have to do with the things? All hotels let you checkin at most times. If you think adding 30 min to a day of driving makes it impossible to schedule trips then it is nothing but a testament to your lack of basic math abiliity.
I agree that if you're functionally retarded EVs are probably not a good thing.
Your common sense is that of a retard, Rob.
Yea I semi respected kirk. He would duck the really smart kids if he IDed him but I give him props for his approach even if a bit cowardly at times. I can argue all day with people like you and look like a genius but that isn't because I'm a genius. Same thing with Charlie. Rip
Are EV's becoming politicized as well, such that libs like 'em and conservatives eschew them?
What, Me Worry?
Is this a serious question? It has been like that for years. I have to think you are trolling.
THis is like the only reason I can see why Tesla wants to keep Elon so bad - he isn't toxic to the right so maybe they'll actually buy more EVs since so many libs already have.
