Thread: Will they adjust pay tables in 2026?

  1. #181
Sessions have nothing to do with the new 2026 90% loss claim issue...

They are not tracking wins / losses outside of W2G's... But for every W2G, where you used to be able to claim easily 100% Loss (by showing a win/loss statement for example that would show a net-loss at a casino for example)... But also, they expect you to lose... Now, you can only write off up to 90% of that W2G...

Poker Player: $110,000 in Tournament Cashes. $100,000 in Tournament Buyin Expense (losses)
    -- 2025 = $10,000 Net Profit Taxable
-- 2026 = $10,000 Net Profit Taxable + $100,000 Buyin Expense can only deduct 90% of this for an additional $10,000 in taxable income. So now $20,000 in taxable income on a year when physically only won $10,000...

Video Poker Player: $100,000 in W2G wins. Net Loss to the casino....
-- 2025 = No Taxable winnings since net loss
    -- 2026 = $10,000 taxable "income" from "Winnings"

Slot Player: $100,000 in W2G wins. Net loss to the casino...
-- 2025 = No Taxable winnings since net loss
    -- 2026 = $10,000 taxable "income" from "Winnings"

This is for small players too... Even if you had 1 W2G for $2000 in 2026, and overall net loss for the year, you owe technically taxes on $200 of income you didn't actually have...

What idiot came up with the notion of not allowing losses to be fully deducted against winnings?

It defies logic and common sense.

Yeah, it was the Mormons: whatever.

Gotta think (and hope) that this law gets shit-canned, and soon, or else not only players but also casinos in the USA will be hurtin' for certain.

What are the casinos doing to try to get this ridiculous law changed?

I trust what mickeycrimm posts more than anyone, because he is so in tune with this and makes it his business to know what is going on. But I certainly understand Slappyfunk and others players concern for what is currently written.

Since the day this was "snuck" into the big bill back in early summer, there has been talk of fixing it. The Nevada two female Senators are the only one's I hear talk about it. I think congress has been slow to act because they think it doesn't take effect until this time next year, because it involves the 2026 tax year. They think they can come up with a fix right up until Dec 31. But what they are missing is that ordinary players like Slappyfunck are right now concerned and hesitant to gamble. It is stupid that no one seems to see that. maybe when revenue starts dropping.

Meanwhile, I still believe that the casino industry and their lobby, representing the industry and their fat cat owners has yet to be heard from on this matter. The mormons will be no match for the casino industry in the end. Never have been.
Expected Value is NOT an opinion.

"""The 90% gambling tax deduction cap in the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (OBBBA) was introduced and overseen by Senator Mike Crapo, then Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, though many lawmakers, including Crapo, expressed surprise at its inclusion as it passed quickly via budget reconciliation in July 2025. While it wasn't a bill specifically about gambling, this provision, which limits loss deductions to 90%, was added to a larger Trump-backed tax package, leading to widespread criticism from gamblers and some politicians. """

I'm surprised the gambling community isn't going nuts over this...

Manny professional poker players have spoken out about this... Barry Greenstein is going to play a very small schedule of tournaments this year including the main event, and some $3K buyins... Eliminating all high rollers all together...

Many others are not playing at all...

I mean, it is pretty clear...

There is all kinds of shit on it, but it seems no one realizes they are fucked....

Someone tried amending it before the new year but it didn't work...

  9. #189
Politicians have been trying to get this amended back to where it was, but they're not getting anywhere--and won't. The reason? Because Trump doesn't care about it. For him to start caring would take a strong, knowledgeable pro-gambling personality to make him interested. None of his family gambles except maybe that twisted niece of his that he cut off years ago. Wealthy people, by and large, don't waste their time in casinos. Take a good look around next time you go. You'll think you're in the same building with hundreds of kews and tashas.

    Hello, Miram Adelson.

The Adelson family, led by Miriam Adelson after her husband Sheldon Adelson's passing, are major Republican mega-donors who have consistently backed Donald Trump's presidential campaigns with hundreds of millions of dollars.

    AI Overview:

Several pieces of legislation have been introduced in the U.S. Congress to reverse the new tax law (part of the July 2025 "One Big Beautiful Bill Act") that limits gambling loss deductions to 90% of winnings.

. These efforts have bipartisan support but have stalled in committees and have not yet received votes in either the House or the Senate.
    Proposed Legislation.

Lawmakers from gaming-dependent states, particularly Nevada, have led the political charge to restore the full 100% deduction. The main bills are:

The FAIR BET Act (H.R. 4304): Introduced in the House by Representative Dina Titus (D-Nevada).
The FULL HOUSE Act (S. 2230): A companion bill in the Senate, introduced by Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nevada) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nevada), with bipartisan co-sponsorship from Senators Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Bill Hagerty (R-Tennessee).
The WAGER Act (H.R. 4630): Introduced by Representative Andy Barr (R-Kentucky), focused on the horse racing industry, which would also allow gamblers to fully deduct losses.

    Status and Roadblocks
Despite widespread opposition from the gaming industry, professional gamblers, and a bipartisan group of lawmakers, these efforts have faced political hurdles:

Stalled in Committees: All the proposed bills are currently stalled in legislative committees and have not advanced for a floor vote.
Senate Opposition: An attempt in the Senate to pass the FULL HOUSE Act by unanimous consent was blocked by Senator Todd Young (R-Indiana).
Revenue Generation: The original provision to limit deductions was included in the 2025 Act to generate an estimated $1.1 billion in tax revenue over the next decade, which is a significant factor in its continued presence.

Industry stakeholders, including the American Gaming Association, are lobbying heavily to reverse the change, arguing that it creates "phantom income" (taxing money that was never actually profited) and could drive bettors to unregulated, offshore markets. While some key Republicans, including House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, have called the provision a "mistake" and committed to working on a fix, a resolution has not yet been achieved.
    What, Me Worry?

Well, I'm not doing to good with keeping out of the casinos... I went to pickup some free play and put a little extra in...

Yesterday... This got me a little more than even... Of course I wanted to see what would happen if I got a $1250 win and switched from Bonus... No 4OAK but this...

Then went back tonight... I was going to play poker but decided to play some machines since it was already after 10PM and the games usually start dying down...

I was playing bonus... I hit this... I would have preferred it paid 399 credits rather than 400 but whatever... I was dealt Ad Ah and Kd Qd. At first I held 3 to the royal, paused, held the two aces and boom! (I split aces once before to chase a royal and hit it but that ain't happening again...

At one point I had an additional $4000 in the machine playing bonus...

Got 4 to the royal dealt to me with flushes 3 times on this machine... Couldn't hit the royal... Again I was trying to see what a $1250 4OAK looked like... Couldn't hit a 4OAK in the $4000 that was in the machine...

    Then boom...

Qh Kh Ah and it filled out nicely!

Took the cash and left up over $20K for the night again...

Definitely in the black this year...

Oh best part! I had $28 of free play and turned it into $58... WEEEEEEEEEEEE

Good hits slap, but aren't you someone who's against this new 90% policy? Are you approaching it with the belief that it will be repealed for 2026? The politicians who want to repeal it are claiming players will not be giving the casinos the same amount of play.

I'm very against it. I wasn't planning to play like this but it happened. About 2 hours total of play time... One hour tonight...

I left too late to go play poker...

Slap must do a lot of VP gambling to hit so many big hands lol.

No judgement but mostly wanted to point out the reflection in his image vs the reflection in your image, Rob.

Alan Mendelson was once getting paid out $10,000 for 4AWK, they require you to spin off and play one more hand, he did and he was dealt 4AWK for another 10k... Literally back to back.

    Spoken like a true low-roller.

Here's something to do next time you're in that town. Take your son (oh wait!....you don't have one) and $400k in cash (oh wait!....you don't have it) and go to one of the high-end properties you play at (oh wait!....you play at skin-flint joints) go into the hi-limit slot room (oh wait!....you've never been in one) get twenty $20,000 tickets made out, then tell them you'd like to play vp at $500/hand minimum and in as private an area as is allowed by policy and is possible.

Guaranteed: after trying to figure a goofy, lonely old man like you out, they'll confirm you're gonna run all of those tickets thru at least once (they're betting on you playing until much or most of or even all of your tickets will be gone) then they'll accommodate your request wherever they can.

Yes, you're having one of your wet dreams right now, but turn the porn back on and it'll all go away.

Rob, do you even understand what this post by Druff means? It means that everything you say and repeat about your play is out the window! And it wasn't just Druff. PositiveVariance did a forensic analysis and came to the same conclusion that your picture was running on a computer screen. and was not an actual VP machine. There was a "curser" on your phony jackpot picture for God sakes. Notice no curser on REAL pictures like slappyfunk posts.
