The shooter had been in the planning stages for weeks, amassing ammo, guns, material for explosives etc. He had "cased" other venues, finally settling on the one target that offered the most effective vantage point. He checked in on the Sep 28th with "over 10 suitcases". He had 50 pounds of explosives in his car.

In your scenario, he sat there for a day teetering on the edge until Dan banned the troll on Sep 29th and that put him into action. Please.

It was preplanned, prestaged and premeditated.

But again it could have been Alan's disbelief of the AP claims of reading two blackjack tables at the same time that put him over the edge. Just as believable.
