Unless he owed you money or you got fucked by one of the scam companies he shilled for that preyed on minority and poor customers in the SoCal area. All the while hiding behind a reputation as a news reporter years earlier. Yea, real good guy.

Alan was the founder of this site. It is a great loss that Alan is gone and that it has come to this. It's too bad that this site is losing an asset like Alan due to other assets with out the "ET" on the end. If all the good people leave then what will this site be left with? What good will this site be? what will this site become?

If something was coming like the lawsuit he wants Dan and others to believe, he would keep his mouth shut. I am aware of what Rob is referring to, and it's "trouble" of the legal variety. Supposedly.

This is the first I've heard that it's going to be aimed at me, however.

I'm not concerned. I have done nothing wrong, and I will not be browbeat into running this forum in a manner differently than I see fit.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I will not cooperate with any requests from any attorneys regarding user information. I would have to be forced to give up user info in court, and I would fight it vigorously with my own attorneys.

I would cooperate with any criminal investigation, but I would still only give up the information if required. The only exception would be if I truly felt a criminal act had occurred (for example, if the police came to me with credible information that a user here was a scammer, I would voluntarily tell them everything I know.)

In 2011, the FBI wanted information on another site I ran (now defunct), regarding one of our users. This user was innocent, but had simply reposted something that was e-mailed to him. The FBI confirmed to me that they believed this user was innocent and that they "already knew the identity of the guilty party", but wanted me to still provide that user's information "just to be sure". I didn't agree with this, and refused. I was told they would subpoena the information, and I politely told the agent that I would cooperate once I received the subpoena. It never came.

People like to throw around legal threats all the time, in hopes it will intimidate people into doing what they want. I'm not someone who is impressed by that.

Furthermore, there are strong anti-SLAPP laws in both Cailfornia and Nevada (google it), so it can be quite costly attempting to file frivolous lawsuits attempting to limit speech. I am friends with an attorney who specializes in anti-SLAPP motions.

Regarding Alan, he was the original founder of this forum, so it's always been a difficult thing to deal with for me. On one hand, I didn't want to see his former forum being used by people as a vehicle to bash him. On the other hand, he voluntarily participated here and posted lots of controversial/provocative material, so it wouldn't be fair to shield him from criticism or name-calling.

Now that he has left the forum, as a continuance of that respect shown to him for being the original founder, I'm asking that everyone just leave him alone.

If he does return here in the future, then at that point you can respond to his messages appropriately.

I don't think that is a fair characterization of Alan.

Alan ran an infomercial. Yes, it was called "Alan's Best Buys", but only a complete moron couldn't tell that it was an infomercial full of paid sponsors. The segments even played out like extended commercials.

I watched a few of the episodes out of curiosity. I didn't see any scammers. I saw small businesses which were trying to promote their goods or services. Nothing jumped out at me as a "scam", nor should Alan have been expected to have carefully investigated the business. Similarly, when you hear radio hosts read advertising copy on the air, they're also not 100% sure that they're not promoting a scam company, but if the company basically passes the smell test and pays up, they accept the money. That's been standard practice in the broadcasting industry or many decades.

There was one travel service which I found to be semi-shady, and I brought it to Alan's attention. Alan eventually stopped doing business with them.

There are many legitimate areas where you could criticize Alan, but I don't believe his Best Buys TV show is one of them. Pretty standard infomercial stuff.

So today while I was at a stop light I received a text message. I kinda only glanced at since I was keeping an eye on the light and I didnt really take in everything it said. At first, I did not even think about who it was or why it was sent. I kinda thought somome was sending me something they received from someone else. I sent a quick response back saying, "I have no idea who this is or what you are talking about." After a few seconds I made a good guess who it was and what it was about. I will let you guys guess because I'm still not 100 % sure, I'm only 99.9% sure.

here is what it said,

I had to think for a min of how this person got my phone number, but then I think I remembered.

I have no idea why a person who felt they were being cyber stalked would contact that person via text out of the blue. That does not sound like they feel frightened.

I have never stalked this person or ANYONE.
I have never sought out or inquire about this person aside from wanting to make a business deal or possibly a friendly situation.
I have no idea where the suspected person or his family and friends live.
I have no clue where this person works or who they work with.
I have never seen this person in private. Or in public, that I know of.
I didnt even know their phone number till now(if I had it before, it had long since been deleted).
I never sent this person an email that I know of.
Any PM I may have sent(It was very few) was not in any way intimidating or frightening, in fact, it would be the opposite of that.
I never contacted this person on social media or sent them anything via the mail.
I have never said or done anything that would cause this person or anyone he knows to be frightened.
I have never said anything that would cause others to do anything harmful to him or anyone he knows.

This person is the last thing on my mind unless I happen to be on a forum. Or his name is brought up buy someone else off the forums(that's almost NEVER, perhaps once or twice when someone called him an idiot).
I have never asked anyone to intimidate, frighten or harass this person or anyone he knows in any way.
I have never even came close to threatening, frightening or intimidating this person.

This person has engaged in willful forum banter back and fourth with me any many others. I assume he is considered a public figure?

I will say here and now, I don't want anyone to harm, frighten, intimidate, harass, stalk, follow this person or ANYONE.
