Not to be argumentative, but I would like to suggest another point of view. Why does everyone automatically assume that being homeless is a problem? The noted Greek philosopher Diogenes had no home and lived in the public square in Athens. Alexander the Great, a student of philosophy, visited Diogenes and asked if he could do anything for him. It was cold that day and Diogenes reply was, "Don't stand between me and the sun". Rather than being angered by Diogenes' reply, Alexander (at the time the most power/richest man in the world) noted, "If were not Alexander, I would have been Diogenes". Buddha and Jesus of Nazareth are other obvious examples.
I wonder how Alexander might have reacted had he seen Diogenes pull down his pants and take a crap in broad daylight right in front of the restaurant window he was eating lunch in....That is the kind of shit you see daily in Downtown Los Angeles
