Whoever told you (or whoever believed) the story had/has REALLY LOW IQ. The true story was the AP was in the hole for tens of thousands of dollars. Colusa actually made money from his play, e.g. the APDW machines made a ton of money for Colusa. The AP got some money back from points to free play and mailers and his major suckout.
High IQ people know it’s very hard to burn out a Moody’s N-Play for special reasons; part of the reason is you need to have high IQ in the first place to think about these special reasons.
The most likely outcome was the AP was dropping buckets of $ hoping to get it back in other forms of value. We call this losing sum certain money for sum uncertain outcomes.
Put it this way: that AP was a moron. Had Colusa not awarded all the remaining prizes, he would have been stuck for a lot of money.
