Yesterday, my Nurse Practitioner said she was scheduling me for an appointment to get the covid vaccine. I should know by Thursday the date of my appointment.
I am starting to grow concerned about how long protection or immunity from the vaccine will last. We now know that natural immunity after an initial infection and recovery only lasts about 5-6 months, as quite a number of people have been re-infected just about 6 months after their initial infection. Colorado reports 241 that were re-infected 6 months later. Even a dozen or so NBA players have been re-infected after having had the virus last summer.
The good news is that it appears most cases are mild the second time around, including people that were pretty sick the first time, although there are a few exceptions of people that got much sicker the second time, including a healthy 25 y.o. male from Nevada.
Obviously they don't know how long immunity from the vaccines last yet. They are going to have to wait and see if people start getting infected 6 months after receiving the vaccine. It would be a real bummer if we all have to get a vaccine every 6 months. :(

Oh thanks for the well wishes for mom, everybody. I didn't mention it for that, more wanted to mention the antibody treatment she is now getting, that wasn't available that long ago.
Tasha, I haven't read that Hank Aaron's Death was from the covid vaccine. He received the vaccine January 5 and died January 22. That is 17 day lag. That is a long time to just assume that the cause. I mean the guy was 86 years old with multiple medical issues.

I'm not an anti-vaxxer. I've had every vaccine known to man and never had an adverse reaction. I'm looking forward to taking the covid vaccine. Our new republican Montana governor somewhat changed the CDC guidelines for adminstering the vaccine. It moved me from group 1C up to 1B.
They haven't finished with group 1A yet. We have a website to schedule appointments for taking the vaccine. They take appointments as they get the doses. No more appointments being taken this week until Thursday at 9 AM. The appointments for the vaccine can be 3 to 10 days after the appointment is made.
Websites have made it easy to follow the covid situation in Montana. We have a population of 1,060,000. The stats are updated daily.
I am not here to argue immunity and antibodies with you mickey. On this one we are all on the same side and want the same thing. But it is my understanding hat there is no common number in terms of antibodies for people who have had covid and recovered. The number depends on a number of variables, including the viral load the person contracted, how sick they were (related to viral load) and even then still fluctuates person to person depending on how strong their immunity system is and other health factors.Quote:

Estimated time on my state’s website for when I can get it: May-December. Rotlmfao, pretty wide range. We've got a long way to go in Montana. Only 19K fully immunized with 67K having their first shots. It's averaging about 4K first dosers a day. We are still in group 1A....which is rather larger now. The Governor moved the age from 75 down to 70 on this group. I'm in the next group, 1b.

The main point is that an individual should be currently focused on strengthening their immune system.
This obviously can be done other ways through exercise, diet, nutrition and vitamins.
However, the breathing and ice water is moving up another level or two or three.
Nothing can beat the sheer power of the mind though.
You can pretty much do or beat anything if you got your mind right.
Today you may say or think you hate the cold but if you focused your mind you could transform into embracing and loving the cold forever.
One thing is for sure... Charlie don't care about the rain, mud or cold.

But now that I am over 50 and getting somewhat soft due to a life of leisure. I find myself wanting to experience things that involve physical discomforts, but keep asking myself, Why? I do think a person would get a lot out of one of his Poland retreats. I believe you would come away with much more than you could with a book or video. That guy is a natural inspirer.

I don't feel I am conflicted regarding my disposition of not wearing a mask except when forced to (shopping/casinos) and vaccinations for other issues as I have not been outspoken in regards to vaccinations for these other ailments (Polio,standard flu,hepatitis C, shingles,tetanus etc.) here on VCT or anywhere else. Like your in-laws, I think I caught Covid the 1st half of this last March and it wasn't a big deal. Anyhow, just as you write, we don't live forever so no point in stressing out about it too much. So people who have trained their minds to block out pain and discomfort have done themselves a huge service - it is not the dying that is disconcerting to me, but rather the pain that often accompanies it which I'm not a big fan of (hope I go in my sleep when the time comes - wishful thinking most likely).
I was actually thinking about this the other day. People of yesteryear just got on with it. I don't think Cholesterol screening even started until the early 80's right ? And triglyceride/lipid screening is even more recent. I could just have a Coke and Tylenol combo for headaches/migraines rather than migraine medicine (as I am untrained for blocking out pain) if I didn't have basic health insurance and leave the rest to mother nature. So determining when it is better to go the home remedy route versus medical establishment treatment is definitely a good skill to master since the medical establishment causes a lot of deaths.

Wim Hof is a beast, I'm a big proponent of cold weather thermogenesis. I consistently go through the majority of winters, with shorts/t-shirt only. I've been doing this for the last 10 years, the health benefits are enormous. Brown fat is activated through cold exposure and is great for the battle of the bulge. It's extremely invigorating, to go out in the middle of winter with minimal clothing and get quite the adrenaline rush from it. From what I understand (I don't remember having the chicken pox), a shingles vaccination will protect the vaccinated person against chicken pox if they come into contact with a person who has shingles, but that it is unknown if it will afford this same protection against someone who has chicken pox itself. I never had the Chickenpox.
Shingles could be a problem for me down the road.
I don't like anyone injecting me as I really don't know what is in that syringe.

I rarely go to the doctor.
I personally hate what their profession has become in the States.
I still believe my 45 automatic is the best medicine and insurance for my own self.

It may be the case that catching Shingles is more likely if you never had the Chicken Pox (sans the Shingles vaccine). It's nice that the Shingles vaccine confers some protection against the Chicken Pox, but of course getting a Chicken Pox vaccine would be the best protection. It's possible I had the Chicken Pox and simply don't remember (i.e. got it as an infant), or had a very mild case and just didn't know it.Quote:

This is exactly why I don't want the vaccine - it is too new and the greater population are the guinea pigs. In your mom's case, since she is in a higher risk group due to her age, prudence is more important. Well that is unfortunate. I was reading that only 50% of people that wind up on a ventilator for covid survive.
I have seen numbers like this and even worse as well, MaxPen. But I have also read that earlier on they were putting people on ventilators too quickly (early treatment) and leaving them on too long, not really knowing when to ween them off. The doctor convinced me it would only be short-term to aid her lungs and allow them to heal better. I know....I am sure everyone's family is told it will be short term. Recall that there are numerous examples of medications being rolled out and then recalled after FDA approval. The whole fen-phen deal (fenfluramine and/or dexfenfluramine) which was found to damage heart valves. So just as the doctor promised, Mom came off the ventilator this morning after 3 days. With the help of the ICU staff, my brother and I were able to facetime with here for a few minutes. That was a scary and depressing experience as she was very confused and cranky, almost hostile. Seemed like a different person. The nurse said confusion and disorientation is normal. How horrible to not be able to be with her and assure her everything is going to be ok. This nasty ass virus!Quote:

For whatever reason the Covid vaccine is pretty easy to get in urban and rural Alaska. It started out slow with health care workers in December. When the over 65 group opened up, all the January appointments went fast. In February there was more vaccine than takers so eligibility was massively expanded on 2/11. We have a pretty seamless on line registration system and I got an appointment for the 21st. I was then able to make earlier appointments and move up to this morning. The school district hosts a vaccination site that takes over 1,000 people a day. It took 30 minutes complete with a 2nd appointment scheduling and a 15 minute observation period. The state has a high proportion of military, veterans, and Ak Natives and I think that these groups have a separate vaccine supply than state government. We also have covid deniers and minimizers so a vaccine is easy to get for most people in an eligible group or pretending to be. Like 21% of those over 18 have received at least one dose.
My group will start making appointments online tomorrow morning at 9 AM for Feb 22 thru Mar 6.

I saw on the American news, yesterday, that Canadians are reporting a 90% drop in cases given the vaccine. I think that it will be a long time here before the vaccine has much to do with it, let alone that much of a drop, at least in the long term. Haven't heard of any shots to the general public in Ontario. We were in another shutdown for the last month. Some are saying that it shouldn't re-open, especially with the new strain on the way.

MisterV, today I was able to get on a notification list to schedule me for my first shot whenever they again become available. Jesus this is what it all has come to.
I got my first vaccine shot two days ago. No side effects.
Here in Illinois it had been impossible to get the shot. They have finally started to increase availability now. Since we are a democratic state, the vaccine was first made available only in the black and hispanic communities under the premise that they somehow had more difficulty getting health care. Of course, as it turned out, those groups wouldn't come in and get the shot and they were forced to throw away expired vaccines.
Luckily, the white suburbanites found out about these locations in bad neighborhoods and there was a parade of white people waiting in line for the shot at those inner city locations. You didn't even have to be 65 or ill or otherwise qualify. Young, old---didn't matter. Just come and get it.

I did not partake in that scam and did finally get the first shot 2 weeks ago by going on-line at 3 in the morning. You can't get an appointment on-line during normal hours. My wife is much younger so i don't know when she will be able to get hers.
I got a 2nd pfizer shot a couple days ago with zero side effects. The first dose caused a sore arm.
I think that living in a smaller red state is advantageous. Anyone over 55 is eligible along with healthcare workers, teachers, people living in congregate settings, and their employees. A lot of our population are military, Native, or veterans and those groups have additional allotments. There are 6,400 appointments still available this month (this number has actually been increasing as the day progresses) state wide on the state website. This doesn't include many smaller providers and what the military, veteran affairs and Native corporations are doing.
I'm sure that getting vaccinated would be more difficult if everyone wanted one. That's the red state advantage I was referring to. While I think that Alaska leads the nation in early vaccination rates, I imagine this will taper off as the unvaccinated pool is eventually left with our abundant covid and vaccine skeptics.
Alaska just made everyone over 16 eligible and there are still available appointments.
They did it again in Illinois which is still lagging behind in vaccinations. They finally opened up the United Center (where the bulls and blackhawks play) for mass vaccinations, albeit still only for the over 65 because we are so far behind. After a few days they had to change the rules and restrict who can get the shot because too high of a percentage of patients were white and from outside of cook county. They want it to go to the "impoverished". That is their term--not mine.
So they are holding back on the vaccines for people that don't want it and will again wind up wasting it.
I hope they do not pull that same shit in Mass, as I am scheduled for my first shot Saturday afternoon.Quote:
