For the record any networking I have ever done with another ap has been a positive experience. One guy got me for a couple of hundred but I just let it slide. Happy to know it before we ever did any real business. Furthermore out of all the APs that I know I've never heard of a bad story of any significance that they have had with another ap they networked with. Furthermore it is a stretch to claim that all a p's are in competition with with each other. Things like machine hustler's might be in competition at a particular casino but that in no way extrapolates.
I'm networked with a lot of slot AP's on Twitter. We DM back and forth. Networking is profitable. I have pictures of slot games I'm waiting to run into. And I've sent pics around of games I've discovered.
