The Wise Guys Contest description is self explanatory.
The first line of text under the page headline says for 2018 "the contest goes back to its original roots, when the participants paid an entry fee and gambled with their own money."
That implies that the rules changed for 2018.
The rules listed at the link you provided are for 2014. They talk about points awarded for winning selections, and the prize pool coming from the $200 entry fee, but I couldn't find anything about participants gambling with their own money within the structure of the contest.
The rules for 2018 aren't posted, so how did they change? How did the participants gambling with their own money fit into the contest rules?
You keep dancing around this question...why?
Coach, I think you are having trouble with your interpretation of what was stated. To me "participants paid an entry fee and gambled with their own money" is referring to the entry fee.
