I am going to bounce way back to the beginning subject of this thread, at the beginning of the week, because the more I learn the more it wreaks of Wizards protecting Madag bullshit.
1) in response to someone saying I was unknown to any AP's, HH casually stated that he had met me years ago and seen me several times since.
2) HH was immediately contacted by private message by Mdawg wanting information on me that he could further use to dox and identify me as he had done before.
3) HH let this be known without mentioning exactly who it was that contacted him (although everyone guessed
4) HH was suspended for 3 days.
Now 2 things about this wreak. 1) It is supposed to be a major violation to be seeking personal information from members about any member of the forum. We are not just talking Mike's silly 3 day suspension type violation, people have been banned for this. AND this protection is and has in the past been extended to former members, like myself. Sidthesquid account was banned for doing the same thing. Shackleford completely overlooked this precedent and suspended HH instead of taking some sort of action again Mdawg the person digging for information.
2). HH is a longtime member of WoV. A somewhat known longtime known AP. Based on what circles I know know he ran in and what other AP's he worked with, Shackleford should know who HH is, a legitimate AP.
And yet Shackleford once again threw all that out, his own rules, his previous precedent to once again protect Mdawg. WTF Mike? When does this shit end?

Over the years, I have networked and communicated privately with a number blackjack advantage players, both professional and recreational. Some of them pretty well known. A few came to this forum, not because I asked them to, but because I was a member here. None lasted very long because of what this forum is.
In Recent years, when one of these dusts up occur, one of these well known blackjack AP will ask me privately, if I want him to poke his head in here and confirm this or that. I always say "don't bother, they will refuse to believe you anyway".
Well I didn't ask Kim Lee to come here and say anything. Redietz is the one that basically asked Kim Lee to verify something. I just passed that request along to Kim Lee. Just turns out Kim Lee verified about the opposite of what Redietz was hoping. And what Kim Lee stated was not an opinion based on nothing. Kim Lee studied the very publications from 30-40 years ago that redietz talked up, AND spoke directly to Redietz on the phone and concluded that for the most part Red's claims of 40 years professional sports bettor was baloney.
Again, that is not on me, I didn't ask him to do that. Redietz asked him to do that. When I informed Kim Lee that Redietz had mentioned him twice, for all I know Kim Lee could have showed up here and confirmed Red was a real professional sports bettor for 40 years.

And I was coming off one of the finest college football handicapping seasons in history, all in a weekly column published for everyone to see (I actually got some fan mail, which was crazy).
But, and here's why I didn't freak out over my inaugural losing season with McCusker, I realized that 80-35 ATS record had at least a dozen winners that should have lost. I had been lucky as hell, and I knew it. So when the next year-long statistical results whacked me with seven or eight losers that should have won, I couldn't really complain. And, if you'll notice, I didn't.
I also, as McCusker noted, returned all subscription fees for that losing year. All of them. Now go and find another handicapper, 22 years old or 72 years old, who did that.

In many ways Alan near the end was very much like Tasha, without shitting on the floor I assume. He was near broke from gambling, lost his business and was barely existing, owed family money he couldn’t pay back, etc. But he stayed in the game some, gambling at small stakes trying to turn things around and when he couldn’t, he came here and made up bullshit to needle people.

You have to look at how/why his stories came about. They were often some kind of "teaching moment/ cautionary Tale" to prove a point. I think he just inflated the numbers to make it seem unlikely, without thinking about the math and how nearly impossible those things were. In fact, it was featured on the back page of a newsletter with tens of thousands of subscribers AND was on newsstands nationally for decades. That, and the final five years of "Tipsters or Gypsters?" is why Billy Walters hired me. Tough to knock all those years of winning.
So let's recap a moment. Why would someone comment about a contest and get wrong:
(A) the number of participants by a huge margin and
(B) the notoriety of the contest, which was in a nationally distributed publication (and likely also featured on the television show) for 30 friggin' years?

A few words about Alan.
Overall I found him to be a decent guy, which is why I felt he was deserving of the tribute on the top of the forum. Well, that and the fact that he founded this place, and tolerated all of the bullshit here for so many years before handing it to me.
Say what you want about Alan, but he basically made this a free speech forum where people could come if they got booted from other gambling forums. That's not what he intended it to be, but that's what it became, and he never wavered from it.
Alan's personal life was flawed, to say the least. He had a gambling problem. He had multiple divorces, likely due at least in part to said gambling problem. He seemed to have somewhat of an irritation with the concept of advantage play, since he personally lost a good deal of money gambling, and probably didn't want to believe AP was a real thing.
I had my share of issues/arguments with Alan, especially after I took over here. I won't rehash those. It's minor bullshit when you get down to it.
I was truly sad when I heard about his passing. I knew he had major kidney issues, and I didn't expect him to live until 90. However, I thought he'd be around for a lot longer than he was.
I respected his journalism career, some of which took place when he was very young. Some people criticized his "Best Buys" TV show, which indeed was an infomercial, but I saw no problem with it. You'd have to be a complete moron not to realize he was getting paid by the businesses he featured. To me the program was more of a showcase of various businesses who wanted the public to know about them. Alan claimed he was let go from his last salaried TV position because of his age, and that's probably true. Show business is rarely easy on older people. He had to do something, and he used his notoriety in LA to start the Best Buys show. When I first saw him, I had remembered him from television from many years prior.
Anyway, bottom line is that we wouldn't have this forum if not for Alan starting it in 2010. This place serves a purpose. Among other things, you always have a voice here when the "less tolerant" gambling forums ban you for flimsy (or even not-so-flimsy) reasons. You can show up here and post absurd shit, and I generally tolerate it. You can partially thank Alan for that. While I also lean toward the free speech model, it was easy to do here, as I wanted to continue running the forum with a similar feel and tone to the Alan Bestbuys Forum as which it started.
Look I know no wager will happen, but it shows MDawg knows what he said was just more trolling of KJ. Druff (and someone privately to me) made it clear you aren’t the same person.
